It's nearly time to update the display boards in the corridor outside our classroom. This time, we will be following the National Gallery 'Take One Picture' theme, and every class in school will be choosing and interpreting an aspect of one famous work of art for their display. The painting that has been chosen is Seurat's 'Bathers at Asnieres.'

3V are making a study of the sailing boats in the picture, and will be creating their own pieces using a variety of media and artistic techniques.
This afternoon, we made a start on the background for our boat pictures, blending tones of blue to create a graduated watery effect.
In the coming weeks, we will be exploring the pointillist painting technique made famous by Seurat in his later works to complete the boats, before finally adding textiles for the sails.
