Hindu Art Displays

In recent weeks we have been working hard to update the display boards in the corridor outside our classroom.

The theme for all the corridor displays this term is 'Religious Celebrations,' so in order to tie in with our study of Hinduism, 3V chose to create artwork reflecting a Hindu wedding celebration.

In the run up to the wedding, members of the bridal party have their hands and feet decorated with intricate henna patterns called Mehndi.  These often include images of flowers (particularly the lotus flower) and peacock feathers.

The children made templates of their own hands and then created their own Mehndi designs using black ink.

Echoing the peacocks theme, the children then designed their own peacock drawing.  Outlines and bold decorations were traced in oil pastels, and then the children used watercolour paints to complete their designs.  The children took care to blend their watercolours carefully so the colours merged together seamlessly.
